Dad did not change the doctrine of Scientology even for his favorite.
19-year-old Suri, the daughter of Tom Cruise and actress Katie Holmes, once topped the list of America's most popular children, but for many years her life has been away from the public eye. She does not attend social events, does not act in films, nor does she aspire to become a model like other former child stars.
Recently, paparazzi spotted Suri in New York, and she looked very upset. The girl was sitting on the doorstep of a house, sadly resting her head on her knees. Later, her mother arrived to support her. They talked a little and went shopping together.
Suri was dressed in a black and green puffer jacket, oversized sweatpants, and slippers. Her mother chose a white and orange sweater, dark pants, and shoes for the outing.
Suri was born in April 2006 and immediately found herself in the spotlight of the public and tabloids. She first appeared on the cover at five months old. After that, the girl frequently appeared with her father at events, premieres, and social dinners — she was a true star. However, the idyll collapsed in 2012 when Holmes unexpectedly filed for divorce. Their divorce was settled in a record 11 days, and Katie received sole custody of Suri, while Tom could visit his daughter.
After the divorce, the actress decided to move to New York, and at that time, Suri's communication with her father ceased. According to sources, the last time Tom saw his daughter was 12 years ago. Apparently, Cruise is not troubled by the estrangement from his daughter. Recently, before Father's Day, he was asked what he would be doing that day. The actor stated, "Just having fun, man. Making movies, big adventures, having a great time," without even mentioning his children.
The reasons why the once-loving father distanced himself from his daughter remain a subject of heated debate, but most sources agree that the main sticking point was Scientology, of which Tom Cruise is a follower.
In this religion, there is a doctrine of "disconnection," which obliges all church members to cut ties with those who do not share their views, labeling such people as "suppressive persons." According to experts, Cruise, as a top celebrity of the church, could ignore this rule if he wanted to. But apparently, he preferred not to violate the doctrine, even for his daughter.
Despite her father's absence, Suri grew up to be a determined and talented individual, largely thanks to her mother. She graduated from the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, known for its rigorous selection process. After graduating in 2024, Suri took an important step — she officially renounced her father's surname. At the graduation ceremony, she was announced as Suri Noel. She took her mother's middle name as her surname. Notably, her father missed this important event; on that day, he was at a Taylor Swift concert in London.
