Nutrients: skipping breakfast significantly increases the risk of obesity and hypertension.
Scientists from Ningxia Medical University (China) conducted the largest meta-analysis showing that skipping breakfast significantly increases the risk of developing metabolic syndrome—a combination of disorders including obesity, hypertension, high blood sugar, and cholesterol levels. The results were published in the journal Nutrients.
The analysis of nine studies involving tens of thousands of people showed that those who regularly skip their morning meal have a 10–26 percent higher likelihood of developing metabolic syndrome, depending on the indicator. Abdominal obesity and elevated blood glucose levels are particularly common among them.
According to the authors, a regular breakfast helps maintain stable metabolism and can be a simple way to prevent diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Researchers emphasize that skipping the morning meal is not a harmless habit, but a potential risk factor for chronic diseases.
