Hollywood's top stars are heading to the Caribbean for a new ambitious project. Edward Norton, Javier Bardem, and Viggo Mortensen will star in a historical western that will mark the directorial debut of musician Residente.
What is Known About the Project
According to Deadline, Puerto Rican artist Residente (René Pérez Joglar), leader of the group Calle 13, has begun work on the film "Porto Rico." The film is described as an epic Caribbean western and historical drama.
The screenplay was written by Oscar-winning writer Alexander Dinelaris.
Bad Bunny (Benito Martinez Ocasio) has also joined the star-studded cast, marking another step in his acting career.
What the Film Will Be About
The plot centers on the life of revolutionary José Maldonado Roman, known as Agila Blanca ("White Eagle"). In the late 19th century, he fought alongside the Cuban Liberation Army against colonialism and played a crucial role in shaping Puerto Rican identity, becoming a hero of folk folklore.
Residente noted that he has dreamed of making a film about his country since childhood and intends to portray the true history of Puerto Rico — honestly and without embellishments.
It is still unknown which specific period of Agila Blanca's life will serve as the basis for the plot.
