Can a Cat's Breed Reveal Its Character?

Scientists have confirmed the presence of certain patterns.

Researchers from the University of Helsinki (Finland) have created a unique questionnaire consisting of 138 statements that helps identify the personality traits of cats. Data was collected from owners of 4,300 cats of 26 different breeds.

During the study, seven personality and behavioral characteristics were identified that can be used to judge a cat's character. These include activity, timidity, aggression towards humans, sociability with people, sociability with other cats, litter box problems, and excessive grooming.

The study showed that there are clear behavioral differences among various breeds. In other words, certain personality traits and behaviors are more commonly found in cats of specific breeds. For example, the most timid breed was the Russian Blue, while the bravest was the Abyssinian.

Bengal cats showed the greatest inclination towards play and active behavior, while Persians and Exotics were the calmest. Siamese and Balinese cats were the most concerned about the cleanliness of their fur. Turkish Van cats exhibited hostility towards humans more frequently and were less inclined to socialize with other cats.
