American Sets World Record for Catching Bighead Carp

Fisherman from Festus, Missouri, George Chance, broke the world record by catching the largest bighead carp. His catch weighed 97 pounds (about 44 kg).

This is a new world record for the weight of this species of fish caught on a line, reports Fox News, citing the Missouri Department of Conservation.

George Chance recounts that when the fish took the bait, he had to fight with it for 20 minutes before he could bring it to shore (screenshot from foxnews.com).

The fisherman estimated that he caught a fish weighing around 50–60 pounds (22–27 kg). “It was full of roe,” he added.

The International Sport Fishing Association reports that the previous record for the largest bighead carp was set in 2005. At that time, a fisherman from Tennessee caught a fish weighing just over 40 kg. Since then, there have been reports of potential records, but they have not been confirmed. The record of the fisherman from Tennessee remained unbroken for nearly 20 years.
