The World's First Cultivated Meat Cat Food Launched in England

London startup Meatly has announced the release of a unique natural cat food made from cultivated meat. The company is currently seeking permission to sell it, reports the Daily Mail.

This cat food is made from chicken meat grown in laboratory conditions from chicken egg cells. Company representatives claim that the resulting product is visually identical to real chicken.

Although the developers have not yet received approval from regulatory authorities to sell their cat food, the largest British pet store chain, Pets at Home, which has around 400 stores and over 300 grooming salons, has expressed its willingness to include this product in its range.

Meatly explained that the process of producing cultivated meat cat food occurs in three stages. First, a small sample of chicken egg cells is taken, which are then grown in a laboratory with the addition of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids necessary to convert the cells into meat. After that, the resulting meat is sent to the production facility of Omni, one of the leading producers of plant-based pet food in the UK, where it is made into ready-to-eat food.

Meatly emphasizes that their product is also interesting because cultivated meat is rich in vitamins and trace elements. It contains no residues of antibiotics that may be used in traditional animal farming.

Additionally, the company noted that the price of a 150-gram can of this food (intended for one meal) will be around 1 British pound.
