The frog Brachycephalus pulex has been recognized by researchers from the State University of Santa Cruz (USA) as the smallest vertebrate creature on the planet. The results of their study were published in the journal Zoologica Scripta.
This species inhabits exclusively a few hills in the southern part of the state of Bahia (Brazil). Scientists measured 46 individuals, and the length of these frogs averages 7–8 mm.
However, it is possible that there are even smaller vertebrate animals that have not yet been discovered.
