Breeder may face up to 5 years in prison for fraud in cat sale

The deputy prosecutor of the Toguchin district of the Novosibirsk region has submitted a criminal case against a local resident accused of fraud in the sale of a cat to the court.

The accused was engaged in breeding and selling Bengal cats. According to the investigation, she decided to illegally increase her income by passing off a Bengal cat as a representative of the "European Burmese" breed, as such animals are significantly more expensive on the market.

In April 2023, the woman posted an advertisement online for the sale of a "European Burmese" kitten. To mislead the buyer, she created a registration card and veterinary passport, according to which the kitten allegedly belonged to this breed.

A buyer was found in the same month. When the kitten grew up, the owner realized that he had become a victim of fraud and reported it to the police, as stated in the message.
