Do Dogs Like Food Made Specifically for Them?

Each of us has at least once wondered what animal food tastes like. Even if you don't have a pet, this thought occurs to many in childhood. However, as we grow older, we realize that such food is not a delicacy at all. Perhaps it doesn't excite our furry friends either?

So, does your four-legged friend like his food? Ask him! We are sure that as soon as a bowl of food is placed in front of the dog, it will start wagging its tail joyfully and even jumping. Isn't that a definite "yes"?

What Attracts Dogs to Their Food

It's all about the aroma, that is, the combination of taste in the mouth and smell in the nose. Dogs are capable of distinguishing savory, sweet, and bitter flavors thanks to olfactory receptors, of which they have significantly more than humans (about 20 to 1). This is why pets can start to get excited even before the food is in front of them — they can smell it.

You have probably noticed that dog food has a rather strong aroma. This is intentional, to stimulate the animal's appetite, as they can detect more subtle smells than we can.

However, when it comes to taste receptors on the tongue, dogs have far fewer than humans. Therefore, animals do not enjoy food in their mouths; they enjoy its aroma.

By the way, if your dog gulps down food indiscriminately, it is likely a Labrador (or a mixed breed). Scientists have discovered a genetic mutation common in Labradors that is associated with both obesity and a constant craving for food. Be careful when treating your sweet friend!
