The National Council for Electronic Media (NCEM) has closed access to five more websites disseminating Russian propaganda, according to a statement from the official publication "Latvijas vēstnesis".
Access has been closed to the websites "buryatia.mid.ru", "eurasiaru.org", "19rusinfo.ru", "historyrussia.org", and "rshu.ru".
The National Council for Electronic Media (NCEM) received information from a competent state authority that the content disseminated on these websites contradicts the interests of the security of the Latvian information space and national security. The websites spread one-sided and biased information about Russia's war in Ukraine, mobilize informational and public support for Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine, strengthen a favorable understanding of Russia's history, as well as foster a sense of belonging and a general positive attitude towards Russia.
This may negatively affect the cohesion of Latvian society, interethnic relations, understanding of values, as well as solidarity and support for Latvia's state independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Similar decisions to restrict access to Russian propaganda websites have been made by the NCEM before.
