One of the brightest events of the year is taking place in the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia – the blooming of azaleas. Azaleas are among the brightest ornamental plants due to their long flowering period. Depending on the variety, they bloom from October to May, when there are few other flowering plants. There are early, mid-late, and late varieties, and under favorable conditions, a single bush can delight with flowers for several weeks in a row.

Currently, the Azalea Greenhouse features about 140 different varieties. The collection includes plants from all categories – from early to late, and the oldest bush is approximately 60 years old.

The collection of azaleas in the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia is not only the largest in Latvia but also one of the largest in Northern Europe. Among the flowering shrubs, visitors can see varieties such as Sārtais Dzintars, Pink Dream, Paul Schame, and many others. The Azalea Greenhouse is open daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
