"Our heritage, prosperity, and the unchanging spirit of entrepreneurship."

A new attraction will appear near the famous city market Gold Souk, where tourists can purchase gold and other jewelry.

With salaries that are tax-free and a reputation as a city of luxury, Dubai is often described as a place where the streets are paved with gold.

Soon, this metaphor may become a reality: a true "golden street" is set to open in Dubai.

It will be part of the new Dubai Gold District and will be "built using gold," although what exactly this means remains a mystery.

Dubai Gold District is a rebranding of the existing Gold Souk in the city. The area, located in Deira, brings together about 1,000 traders selling gold and jewelry.

According to the Dubai Media Office, the UAE is the second-largest center for physical gold trading in the world; in 2024–2025, the country exported gold worth $53.41 billion (€44.6 billion).

Gold Souk is a popular tourist attraction in the Old Town; nearby are spice, perfume, and antique markets.

"Gold is deeply woven into the cultural and business fabric of Dubai, symbolizing our heritage, prosperity, and the unchanging spirit of entrepreneurship," said Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET).

"By creating this iconic place, we are not only celebrating this heritage but also reimagining it for a new era defined by creativity and sustainability."

Loud Tourist Attractions of Dubai

Dubai has long been known for its loud tourist attractions, including the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, Ain Dubai, the largest Ferris wheel, and Deep Dive Dubai, the deepest diving pool.

In 2024, an air-conditioned street opened on the Heart of Europe island off the coast of the emirate, where it "rains" every 30 minutes. It is part of The World Islands, an artificial archipelago designed to resemble a map of the world.

The city has also announced the "future loop," a 2 km air-conditioned bridge that will connect neighborhoods and buildings, including the Dubai World Trade Centre, Museum of the Future, Emirates Towers, and Dubai International Financial Centre, as well as nearby metro stations.

The project aims to make the city pedestrian-friendly year-round, even when summer temperatures rise to 45 °C.

Outside of Dubai, the emirate of Fujairah recently introduced a "musical road": grooves in the asphalt create tire vibrations that, when driven over, resemble the sound of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
