Dogs of various breeds have a characteristic smell. If it has become more intense and starts to resemble the aroma of chips or spoiled food, the owner should pay attention to their pet's health, warns dog trainer Vladimir Golubev.
This smell is caused by bacteria that multiply on the animal's paws due to insufficient hygiene. However, one should not rush to wash the dog's paws or fur immediately — this may lead to the degreasing of the pet's skin and, consequently, to more active gland activity.
First, it is necessary to carefully examine the dog — the smell may arise not only from inadequate care but also due to health problems.
If there is a strong odor, it is best to consult a veterinarian first.
