Recently, employees of the Investigative Committee and the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation conducted a series of searches in St. Petersburg. It turned out they arrived for Traber and his business partner Vladimir Danilenko. Traber was transported from St. Petersburg to Moscow for investigative actions related to the criminal case concerning the murder of Alexander Petrov, a deputy from the Vyborg district of Leningrad Oblast and the father of the first Russian Formula 1 driver Vitaly Petrov. In the evening, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Traber for two months.
On the evening of October 24, 2020, a sniper shot businessman and deputy Alexander Petrov. The bullet caught him in a cottage located in the village of Velikoye. A single shot stopped the entrepreneur's heart. The sniper rifle was never found, and no suspects were identified.
Ilya Traber (born September 8, 1950, Omsk) is a prominent St. Petersburg entrepreneur who began working in the late 1980s. Today, his business can be characterized as a large infrastructure and port group, with its core consisting of marine terminals, logistics, land assets in the Baltic, service companies for ports, and related projects in the oil and gas and transportation sectors. A key project in recent years is the Primorsky UPK, which is set to become one of the largest new port complexes in Russia.
Vladimir Danilenko is Ilya Traber's longest-standing business partner. He was his junior business partner in LLC "Primorsky UPK" (a deep-water port located in the Vyborg district of Leningrad Oblast), LLC "Fort" (land holdings of 3,600 hectares on the shore of the Gulf of Finland near Primorsk), "RR-city" (a company that took on the completion of unfinished projects in Leningrad Oblast in exchange for vacant land), and other companies.
The press secretary of the president, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed the acquaintance between Putin and Traber but described their relationship as professional and their decisions as routine. However, an investigation by Novaya Gazeta claims that Traber received more serious support from the future president of Russia, who at that time held the position of vice-mayor of St. Petersburg. In particular, Putin made a number of decisions beneficial to the St. Petersburg Fuel Company and the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal. Additionally, Putin, in his capacity as vice-mayor of St. Petersburg, signed an order to transfer fuel and refueling complexes to Traber's company. Furthermore, according to Maxim Freidzon, Putin was connected to the company "Sovex."
Traber was a guest of honor at Putin's birthday celebrations at least in 2004 and 2016.
