Despite the campaigns launched ahead of Midsummer's Day and calls not to drive under the influence of alcohol, on Saturday, the police detained 18 intoxicated drivers.
In 12 cases, criminal proceedings have been initiated for driving under the influence, and in six cases, administrative offense proceedings have been started.
As part of four criminal cases, vehicles have been confiscated from drunk drivers, and in eight cases, a monetary amount may be recovered in favor of the state, which can reach the value of the vehicle.
Over the past day, the State Police noted many other violations on the roads of Latvia, including 240 cases of exceeding the speed limit and 16 cases of aggressive driving style.
Overall, in the area of road traffic, the State Police issued 626 protocols for administrative offenses in 24 hours.
