Dogs are not allowed to have sweets because they poorly digest glucose. Such food can trigger gastrointestinal disturbances and allergic reactions in pets.
Feeding your pet sweets can lead to excessive calorie intake and, consequently, obesity. Pets with obesity are more likely to face diabetes and heart diseases. Such dogs live shorter lives than their normal-weight counterparts.
Of all the sweets, chocolate is particularly dangerous for dogs because it contains caffeine and theobromine, which are toxic to dogs. These substances have a strong impact on the nervous and cardiovascular systems of animals, as their bodies cannot quickly process and eliminate them. Even a small amount of chocolate can lead to poisoning symptoms such as vomiting, tremors, increased heart rate, and seizures. Dark chocolate and cocoa powder are especially dangerous for dogs due to their high concentration of theobromine. Therefore, it is very important to keep chocolate products out of reach of pets.
A good alternative to sweets would be fruits and vegetables. For example, apples, both sour and sweet varieties.
