In a survey of over 1,200 pet owners, specialists found that pets with playful natures who prefer to be active at night are often prone to damaging furniture.
However, even a phlegmatic pet may start scratching furniture if there are small children in the house. This is a source of stress for cats, and stress is the main reason for scratching.
Nevertheless, experts claim that there are reliable methods to discourage cats from creating chaos:
place scratching posts where the pet frequently passes by or near its favorite resting spot;
use pheromones;
play with the animal in a hunter and prey game;
provide the pet with a safe hiding place and space for play.
Experts reached this conclusion based on responses obtained from cat owners. In the future, veterinarians plan to conduct further research and create more effective strategies for managing furry pets.
