First of all, we need to determine what a delicious tomato means? It is a meaty fruit with a thin skin, sweet, with tender pulp and a characteristic tomato smell. Do you agree?
The taste of a tomato depends on the ratio of sugars to acids. The fewer acids and the more sugars, the tastier the fruits. And where are the most acids found? Correct, in the juice of the tomato's seed chamber! Therefore, the more pulp and fewer seeds, the sweeter and tastier the tomato.
There are a few secrets to growing delicious tomatoes, and all of them are simple and do not require special effort or resources. It should be noted right away: these secrets are not scary dacha mysteries, but moments whose implementation almost always ensures a good harvest.
Secret One: Lots of Light
Tomatoes should be planted in places where they will receive plenty of sunlight. Additionally, tomatoes do not like crowding. They will thrive best on southern slopes, protected from cold winds.
Secret Two: Proper Watering
Tomatoes need to be watered properly: soil moisture should be high — at least 85%, and air humidity should be around 50-60%. Watering should not be frequent but abundant. Excess moisture will cause the fruits to become more watery and less sweet!
Secret Three: “Manganese”
If you prefer juicier tomatoes, you can water them with a manganese solution (2-3 g per 10 liters of water) during the flowering stage.
Secret Four: Warm Water
It is recommended to water tomatoes only with settled water, preferably warmed to +23...+25°C. While settling the water, you can add a little manure, compost, or green grass mass (weeds).
You can also add 4 drops of iodine per bucket of water. Watering with this water once a week will help the tomatoes grow larger and ripen a little earlier!
Secret Five: “Clever” Fertilization Schedule
Fertilization should be done at an early stage, and then a break should be taken until the formation of the ovary. Excess nitrogen fertilizers slow down this process. Once the ovary is formed, fertilizers will only be beneficial!
Secret Six: Salt and Ash
For “sweetness,” experienced gardeners recommend during the full fruiting period to feed the plants with a solution of table salt and ash (1 tablespoon of salt and 1 cup of ash per 10 liters of water). It is enough to add 0.5 liters of this solution under each bush.
In Italy, an experiment was conducted: tomatoes were watered with diluted seawater, which made them noticeably tastier! In the USA, a variety of salty-tasting tomatoes has been developed that grow in sandy soils. They can be watered simply with seawater! Such wonders.
Secret Seven: The Effect of Homeland
And finally — the tomato must ripen on the bush! The more it is connected to its “homeland,” the tastier it will be!
These are all the secrets. Wishing everyone a delicious harvest!
