This is the perfect length for grass blades, as it provides a good surface area for maximum photosynthesis. This gives the grass the opportunity to accumulate as much energy as possible before the winter dormancy period. Such length also helps maintain healthy roots.
If you mow the grass too short, the roots will also become shorter due to a lack of nutrients, making it harder for the grass to survive the winter.
