The benefits of wine with moderate consumption are often discussed.
Is it only wine that can have a positive effect on health? Perhaps beer also has its advantages? (It should be emphasized that health experts believe that discussing the benefits of alcohol in general is misguided).
Beer is often blamed for causing beer bellies, premature dementia, memory deterioration, and weight gain. This is true, however, recent studies have shown that when consumed in moderation, this hoppy drink can be beneficial!
Researchers from the UK and the US analyzed data from 48,423 English individuals with a history of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). In their work, the authors aimed to determine how alcohol might worsen the condition of patients with CVD. It turned out that people who consumed up to 105 grams of alcohol per week (approximately six pints of beer, with one pint being 0.568 liters) had lower risks of heart attack, stroke, angina, or death among all participants with CVD! Those who drank six grams of alcohol per day had a 50% lower risk of recurrent heart attack, angina, or stroke compared to those who did not consume alcohol. For those who drank eight grams a day, the risk was 27% lower.
In the study, the scientists looked at various types of alcohol, but participants preferred beer. The authors of the study noted that the results suggest that even after heart attacks, strokes, or angina, people can consume alcohol in moderate amounts. However, the scientists do not advocate for alcohol consumption in general.
It should be remembered that any alcohol is not a medicine, and its consumption, even in moderate doses, can harm the body. However, this does not rule out the possibility of accompanying positive effects.
