How to Properly Wash Apples: It's Not Enough to Just Rinse Them Under the Tap

Even the most attractive apples can be dangerous if not cleaned properly.

If you do not grow apples yourself, but buy them at the market or in a store, be sure to wash them thoroughly before serving. Many of us limit ourselves to a quick rinse of the fruits under running water.

However, this is not enough — chemical substances used in their processing remain on the surface of the apples, and such fruits can harm your health. If you are particularly concerned about the effects of 'chemicals', you can remove the skin: this will guarantee protection from pesticide residues entering your body.

It is optimal to wash apples with hot water to remove the layer of wax.

Nevertheless, the skin contains the highest amount of vitamins, so it is better to resort to this method only in extreme cases. Try cleaning the fruits with a baking soda solution. To do this, dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in 500 ml of water and rinse the apples with the resulting liquid.

This will not change their taste, but you will be sure that you are eating clean apples. If a glossy shine is noticeable on the surface of the apples, it may indicate that they have been treated with wax. In this case, place them in a colander and rinse under hot tap water.
