9 Foods Rich in Iodine: Caring for the Thyroid

In our country, there is often talk of iodine deficiency, and many of us buy iodized salt to replenish this important micronutrient for the thyroid. However, there are many foods that are excellent sources of iodine, reports Doctorpiter.

How to Support Thyroid Health

As a key organ of the endocrine system, the thyroid gland requires constant nourishment. Therapist Sapiyat Akhmedova shared recommendations for the "nutrition" of the thyroid gland to maintain its health on her Telegram channel. One of the most essential "ingredients" for this organ is iodine, which is necessary for the synthesis of the hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).

* seaweed (contains from 16 to 2900 mcg of iodine per 100 g),

* cod (99 mcg of iodine per 3 g of fish),

* eggs (24 mcg of iodine in one egg),

* lobsters (100 mcg),

* pineapples (45 mcg),

* prunes (13 mcg of iodine per 5 g),

* common beans (32 mcg),

* shrimp (35 mcg of iodine per 85 g),

* turkey breast (34 mcg).

According to the doctor, to maintain thyroid health, it is necessary to obtain 150 mcg of iodine per day. Adequate levels of selenium, iron, zinc, and vitamin C are also important for the normal functioning of the organ.
