Gastroenterologist Veronika Kornilova emphasized that during the holidays, many people act recklessly, which negatively affects their health.

 

According to Kornilova, if a person has been on a strict diet before the holidays, it should not be abruptly interrupted on New Year's Eve. She recommends finishing the diet a few weeks before the feast and gradually introducing a variety of dishes into the diet to allow the body to adapt to the changes in nutrition.

The expert also warns against sitting down to the table on an empty stomach, as this can lead to overeating. Drinking alcohol on an empty stomach is also unwise, as it is absorbed quickly, which can cause rapid intoxication.

“At the table, try to eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly. This is important not only from an etiquette standpoint. By breaking down each piece, you reduce the load on the digestive organs,” the doctor noted.

Additionally, certain dishes should not be combined. For example, fish is not recommended to be eaten with dairy products, seafood, and cheese.

“A variety of dishes creates excessive strain on digestion, so it is better to limit yourself to 3-4 dishes for the evening,” Kornilova explained.

The specialist also added that it is important to pay attention to the temperature compatibility of dishes. Hot and cold foods should not be combined.
