It is recommended to add the bay leaf 2–3 minutes before the cooking is finished and let it steep under the lid for 5–7 minutes, after which it should be removed.

Experienced chefs usually avoid adding bay leaves to chicken dishes, including chicken soup. This meat has a delicate flavor, and strong spices can overpower it.

It is also not recommended to add bay leaves to fish soups if the fish already has a bitter taste. However, ultimately, it all depends on personal culinary preferences.
