There will always be room for beloved sprat sandwiches on the New Year's table.
However, in their usual presentation, they get lost among other impressive appetizers. The food blogger suggested a simple solution — serve the sprats in crispy "envelopes" made of toast bread.
What you need for the updated sprat appetizer
For 8–10 beautiful "envelopes," you will need approximately the same set of ingredients as for classic sandwiches. Prepare:
toast bread — 4–5 slices;
sprats (large) — 1 can;
pickled gherkins — 2–3 pcs.;
leaf lettuce — to taste;
hard cheese — 70–80 g;
mayonnaise — 2–3 tbsp.;
garlic — 1 clove.
How to make "envelopes" for sprats
Cut the slices of toast bread diagonally into triangles. Slightly roll each triangle with a rolling pin to make the bread thinner and more pliable.
Immediately after this, form the envelopes: roll the bread into a triangle shape and secure it with a toothpick. Place the prepared envelopes on a baking sheet and bake them at 170 °C for 10 minutes until golden brown.
Once the bases are ready, let them cool and carefully remove the toothpicks.
What to fill the "envelopes" with
The blogger suggested grating the cheese on a fine grater, mixing it with mayonnaise and the garlic pressed through a garlic press. In each envelope, place a leaf of lettuce, 1 tsp. of the cheese-garlic mixture, 1 sprat, and a thin slice of gherkin.
