Systematic consumption of a single product is more likely to harm the body than to aid recovery. For the prevention of colds, as well as during and after illness, it is important to ensure a variety of fruits and vegetables. The diet should also include protein and healthy fats.

Moreover, as Mallein stated, excessive consumption of allicin can cause pain, bloating, heartburn, and flatulence. People with a sensitive gastrointestinal tract may experience these symptoms with just a small amount of garlic.
