Tofu: Is There Real Benefit in It?

Tofu (or in Chinese, dao-fu; in Japanese, to-fu; in Korean, tu-bu) – is a curd made from soybeans, produced by adding a coagulant to fresh hot soy milk.

Tofu is usually made using nigari (which consists of calcium sulfate – a natural mineral).

When it comes to the benefits of tofu cheese, nutritionist Yulia BARYCHEVA recommends preferring cheeses made from animal milk. They contain more nutrients and protein. Soy products are contraindicated in many diseases. Women with hormonal disorders should also consume them with caution, as tofu contains plant phytoestrogens.

Since tofu does not have a strong flavor, it is often fried or marinated in sauces, which does not add any benefits.
