In fact, potatoes contain many beneficial substances. They have vitamin C, potassium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, flavonoids, a lot of fiber, and even protein. The composition hardly changes depending on the variety of the tuber. All these nutrients support the health of bones, heart, intestines, and brain.

Most of the vitamins and minerals are concentrated in the skin. Therefore, it is better to cook potatoes unpeeled. You can bake the tubers with spices, other vegetables, and oil.

Another successful way to prepare potatoes is boiling. Many may find the taste of boiled vegetables bland, but as a side dish or ingredient for salads, it is perfect.

Mashed potatoes are compared to fried potatoes — both options are considered not very healthy. However, unlike French fries or other "oily" dishes, mashed potatoes can be made healthier. Substitute milk with low-fat broth if necessary, reduce the amount of butter, and add onions and herbs to the potatoes.

The dietitian also reminded about the worst additives to potato dishes. According to her, bacon, cheese, fatty sour cream and cream, and mayonnaise should be avoided.
