This pomegranate tea would be more accurately called a drink, as there is neither black nor green tea in the ingredient list. But if you wish, you can add 1 tsp. of any brewed tea for 250–300 ml of liquid to give an additional flavor nuance.
The drink itself has an incredible pomegranate color — the shade ranges between light ruby and raspberry. It is sweet and slightly sour, refreshing and aromatic. The color and sweetness entirely depend on the pomegranate: the riper and redder it is, the richer the drink will be.
If the pomegranate is sour, don’t be alarmed — this can be easily fixed by adding honey or sugar. For festive serving, you can add a few whole pomegranate seeds and a sprig of mint to the glasses or a clear teapot. This pomegranate tea is perfect for tea parties on autumn and winter evenings or for summer serving with ice.
INGREDIENTS FOR 3 SERVINGS
Pomegranate 1 pc. Water 400 ml Granulated sugar to taste Lemon juice 1 tsp.
RECIPE FOR PREPARATION
Step 1
How to brew pomegranate tea? If you want to get a perfectly clear and bright drink, you will need freshly squeezed juice, extracted gently. To do this, cut the pomegranate in half, carefully extract the seeds into a deep bowl, trying not to damage them, and squeeze the juice through cheesecloth folded in several layers.
Step 2
Pour the obtained juice into a pitcher, carafe, or clear teapot. Add boiled water at room temperature or slightly warm (not hot!) to dilute to taste. The color of the drink should remain bright.
Step 3
Add sugar or honey to taste, stirring well until dissolved. If using honey, the water should not be too hot to preserve its benefits. Optionally, add lemon juice.
Step 4
Serve the pomegranate tea chilled, with ice. For a winter version, you can slightly warm the drink, but do not bring it to a boil, otherwise, the taste will spoil, and the color will darken. For aroma and additional depth of flavor, you can add cardamom, cloves, or even a pinch of nutmeg during the warming stage.
NOTE FOR HOSTESSES
Light desserts or cookies pair especially well with the pomegranate tea recipe we shared, as the sweet and sour taste of the drink will create a contrast.
