Some foods consumed at dinner can negatively affect sleep quality, especially if they contain caffeine, said endocrinologist O. Mikhaleva.

According to her, caffeine is present not only in coffee and tea but also in chocolate. To avoid problems with falling asleep, it is better not to consume these products in the evening.

It is also not recommended to eat fast food, fatty meats, sauces, and fried dishes for dinner, as they take a long time to digest, forcing the gastrointestinal organs to work in overdrive. In addition, such food can cause discomfort in the stomach, which hinders full rest.

The specialist states that an excess of protein foods in the evening also negatively affects sleep. Protein stimulates digestive processes and can cause a feeling of heaviness, making it difficult to relax before bedtime.

Mikhaleva advises having dinner at least two hours before sleep. Late meals disrupt the natural mechanisms that prepare the body for rest, as active digestion and hormonal processes related to metabolism continue to function during the night.
