The attempt to evade police pursuit resulted in not only fines of nearly a thousand euros for the young motorcyclist but also a criminal case. During the escape, he grossly violated traffic rules and posed a danger to other road users.
In the Aizkraukle region, State Police officers detained an 18-year-old motocross motorcycle driver after a brief chase, who attempted to flee from law enforcement. The young man has been assigned administrative fines totaling 980 euros, and a criminal case has been initiated.
The incident occurred on the evening of June 16 on the P79 road Pļaviņas — Ergli. During a patrol, the police noticed a motorcycle without a registration number. When the service vehicle approached, the driver sharply accelerated and attempted to escape.
Despite the activated flashing lights, sirens, and repeated demands to stop via loudspeaker, the motorcyclist continued to move. He drove through a forest area, emerged onto public roads, and headed towards Pļaviņas.
During the chase, the young man repeatedly violated traffic rules. In a section where the maximum allowed speed is 80 km/h, he accelerated to 134 km/h. Additionally, the driver entered the oncoming lane, did not use turn signals, and crossed the A6 highway without ensuring the safety of the maneuver.
The chase ended after the motorcyclist turned onto a path, crossed a pedestrian bridge, and fell. Even after the fall, he attempted to lift the motorcycle and continue fleeing, but was detained six minutes after the pursuit began.
A check revealed that the young man was operating an unregistered motocross motorcycle and did not have a driver's license.
In total, the police initiated seven administrative proceedings. They are related to speeding, entering the oncoming lane, lack of a driver's license, using an unregistered vehicle, and other traffic violations.
In addition to the fines of 980 euros, the offender is prohibited from obtaining a driver's license for three months.
However, these consequences are not limited to that. A criminal case has also been initiated against the young man for aggressive driving and ignoring repeated lawful demands from the police to stop the vehicle.
According to the Criminal Code, such an offense may result in a penalty of up to two years of imprisonment, as well as a ban on operating vehicles for up to five years.
