The Indian citizen involved in a traffic accident (DTA) with a bus at an intersection in Apšuciems in February denies guilt for lacking a driver's license.

Last week, the prosecutor's office submitted a criminal case to the Zemgale District Court, in which a 1990-born Indian citizen is accused of violating traffic rules while operating a vehicle, resulting in moderate and severe bodily injuries to the victims. Additionally, the man is accused of using a forged document providing driving rights, the LETA agency was informed by the prosecutor's office.

In February of this year, the accused, lacking the right to operate a vehicle, drove a "Volvo FH" truck with a semi-trailer on an icy road in the Jaunberze parish of Dobele district during nighttime.

Both the truck and the semi-trailer had Lithuanian registration plates.

The man ignored a warning sign indicating that the distance to the "no stopping" road sign was 300 meters, did not reduce his speed, disregarded the road markings, and did not stop the vehicle to ensure safe movement, thus entering the intersection at a speed of about 50 km/h, where he collided with a scheduled bus heading to Liepaja.

As a result of the collision, one passenger of the bus sustained moderate bodily injuries, while another passenger and the bus driver suffered severe bodily injuries, including the bus driver having to undergo traumatic amputation of both lower legs.

Furthermore, during the pre-trial criminal process, the accused acquired a forged driver's license from the United Arab Emirates from an unidentified person at an unspecified time and under unclear circumstances, which he later used for his purposes.

During the document check after the traffic accident, the accused presented a forged driver's license as his own and genuine to the official of the State Police.

Regarding the circumstances of the traffic accident, the accused fully admits his guilt, but does not acknowledge the lack of a right to operate a vehicle as stated in the charges.
