A court in Sweden has approved the transfer to Ukraine of the detained sanctioned vessel Caffa, which is believed to be involved in the transportation of Ukrainian grain.

A Swedish court has ruled that the detained vessel Caffa, which has been docked in the port of Trelleborg for several months, should be handed over to Ukraine. This is likely the first such precedent.

State prosecutor Håkon Larsson noted that the district court agreed with the prosecutors' assessment and this is a satisfactory outcome.

Recall that Sweden stopped and detained the vessel Caffa in the waters of the Baltic Sea on March 6 on suspicions of using a false flag and violating maritime law and safety requirements. On April 29, the vessel was arrested. The crew, partially consisting of Russians, was released.

Based on national and international law, the Swedish Coast Guard considers the vessel Caffa, sailing under the flag of Guinea, to be stateless.

Therefore, the Coast Guard believes that Caffa did not conduct innocent passage in Swedish territorial waters. Without a national flag, there is no state that guarantees the safety and seaworthiness of the vessel.

According to information from the ship, it was heading to St. Petersburg, Russia.
