"The critical mass" for negotiations has not yet been reached.

Speaking about the situation surrounding the Russian-Ukrainian war, the director of the Geopolitical Studies Center, Maris Andžāns, noted in an interview with Latvian TV that his prediction had come true: the war with Iran has dragged on the war in Ukraine, as Trump's and his administration's involvement in negotiations with Moscow and Kyiv has practically ceased. "At the same time, peace from Trump would have been a bad peace. Today, a bad war is better than a bad peace," the political scientist stated, referring to the fact that Trump's plan essentially implied extremely painful concessions to Russia from Ukraine - in particular, the transfer of those territories in Donbas that Moscow does not control to Russia.

In response to a question about the possible involvement of European leaders in negotiations with Russia to end the war, the associate professor at the University of Latvia, Andis Kudors, emphasized that "the critical mass has not yet been reached," meaning that the appropriate moment for such involvement of European powers' leaders in negotiations with Putin has not yet arrived. According to Kudors, this moment may come when Ukraine will be even more strongly "biting Russia." To this, Andžāns added that Ukraine currently holds the initiative on the battlefield, and drones have already "reached" Putin's hometown - St. Petersburg.
