The Internal Security Bureau has completed the investigation into an employee of the State Fire and Rescue Service and a private individual who, according to the investigation, illegally obtained about 30,000 euros from someone else's bank account and payment card.
In Latvia, an employee of the State Fire and Rescue Service and his alleged accomplice may face criminal charges for the illegal use of someone else's bank funds. According to the Internal Security Bureau (ISB), the criminal case has already been forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office of Eastern Latvia with a proposal to initiate criminal prosecution.
According to the investigation, the official from the SFRS and a private individual acted for the purpose of obtaining material benefits and repeatedly used someone else's financial instruments without the owner's permission.
The investigation found that initially, 3000 euros were transferred to an account belonging to the suspects. After that, using someone else's bank account and payment card, more than 27,000 euros were withdrawn in cash.
The total damage, according to the investigation, amounted to about 30,000 euros.
For regular bank customers, this serves as another reminder of how serious the consequences of illegal access to financial instruments can be. In such cases, the investigation is conducted not only regarding the direct use of the card but also all operations involving the movement of funds.
The ISB notes that the materials of the investigation allow for both individuals to be considered involved in illegal actions with someone else's payment funds. Now the decision on further criminal prosecution will be made by the prosecutor's office. If the charges are approved, the case will be sent to court, which will determine the degree of guilt of each of the suspects.
The Internal Security Bureau does not disclose additional details about the victim, the circumstances of gaining access to the banking data, and the period during which the crime was committed.
The investigation into the case is complete, and the further fate of the accused now depends on the decision of the prosecutor's office and the court.
