While making a turn and being distracted by one pedestrian, the driver of the minibus did not notice another person who was beginning to cross the road at that moment at the pedestrian crossing.
The car was moving at a relatively low speed, but it was unable to avoid the collision, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
Red stains were left on the asphalt at the scene — this was tomato sauce from a bag of groceries belonging to a man who was crossing the pedestrian crossing and went unnoticed by the driver of the Ford minibus. While turning right from Tilta Street, the driver noticed another pedestrian but claims he was driving slowly.
"It was as if he 'sat' on the car, I drove him a bit, then he fell," the driver said.
Immediately after the incident, a woman who witnessed the accident approached the victim. She tried to help the man until the medics arrived.
"Well, it seems like nothing serious will happen. There was such a hit. The person fell, was in shock. I called for help and waited for them to arrive," the eyewitness said.
Medics took the victim to the hospital, but the man did not sustain serious injuries.
