On Friday morning in Kengarags, a man had to helplessly watch as fire destroyed his car. The situation is aggravated by the fact that, most likely, the car was set on fire by teenagers.

There were several eyewitnesses to the incident; however, as the car owner recounts, the reaction of those around was delayed, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).

A yellow light breaks through all the windows of the car. The glass is covered in soot that appeared at the moment the car caught fire. Local residents are watching the rescue workers at the scene.

"Half an hour ago I was at the store — there was no fire. Now I come back, and I see — it’s already burned. Someone probably set it on fire," said one local resident.

That the incident was not just an unfortunate coincidence or the result of faulty wiring was confirmed to the show "Degpunktā" by the car owner.

"To put it briefly — little kids came, set it on fire, broke a window, and ran away. People were walking around, doing nothing, they even saw the smoke, they were breaking the glass — everyone didn’t care. [Question: Had the car been there for a long time?] Well, it had been there for some time. But that doesn’t mean it should be set on fire and broken," said the car owner.

Not far from the scene, several minors were breaking a bench near the entrance. Perhaps these were the same children who wanted to see the burning car. Soon, police began to inspect the area to determine if anyone matching the eyewitness descriptions was nearby.

"The information available to the State Police suggests possible arson. We urge residents to respond if they have any information that may be useful to the investigation by calling 112," said State Police representative Gita Grjibovska.

For intentional damage to someone else's property committed by arson, a penalty of up to ten years in prison is provided, with probation supervision for up to three years or without it.

Considering that from the age of 11, adolescents can be subjected to compulsory educational measures, it is likely that the young pyromaniacs will not escape punishment.
