On Tuesday evening, a passenger diesel train caught fire in the Nitzgale parish of Augshdaugava region, between Livani and Daugavpils, reports the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPRS), according to LETA.

The call was received shortly after 21:00, and firefighting efforts lasted more than two hours. The train's engine compartment was on fire over an area of ten square meters.

Before the arrival of the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPRS), about 60 people were evacuated from the train.

The State Police informed the LETA agency that the cause of the fire is currently unknown. A criminal process has been initiated by the police, and law enforcement agencies are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

In total, over the past 24 hours, the GPRS received 63 calls: 29 for firefighting, of which 11 were related to dry grass fires and two to forest fires, 26 for rescue operations, and eight calls turned out to be false. Over the past 24 hours, firefighters responded to calls where residential houses, tires, and roofs of buildings were on fire, as well as a street toilet, a garden shed, a wooden barn, garbage, hay bales, electrical wires, a wooden fence, and food on the stove.

Yesterday around 11:00, rescuers received a call in Ligatne, Cesis region, where a person got lost in the forest. Using the sound signal of the emergency vehicle, the person was found in less than an hour and taken to a safe place.

Meanwhile, in Liepaja, a deceased person was retrieved from the sea and handed over to the State Police.
