In Ventspils last Christmas, a man set a car on fire in the yard of an apartment building after a conflict, reported LETA agency citing the public relations specialist of the State Police, Madara Šeršņova.
The police have initiated a criminal case for the intentional destruction of someone else's property. During the investigation, it was established that on the evening of December 26, 2025, a verbal conflict occurred between two acquaintances, during which one of them smashed the front door window of a Mercedes-Benz with a hammer.
After that, the suspect poured fuel into the car's interior and set it on fire. The vehicle was not completely burned, however, it is beyond repair and cannot be used, resulting in material damage to the victim in the amount of 5,000 euros.
The State Police have completed the investigation of the criminal case and forwarded it to the prosecutor's office for the initiation of criminal prosecution.
According to the Criminal Law, such a crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to ten years with probation supervision for up to three years or without it.
