The State Police have initiated a criminal process regarding the fall of a Ukrainian drone in Latgale.
According to the State Police, after receiving information from the National Armed Forces (NAF) about the incursion of a foreign unmanned aerial vehicle into Latvia's airspace, police crews immediately went to the scene of the incident.
The State Police, as the investigative body, is conducting urgent investigative actions within the framework of the criminal process, after which a decision will be made regarding the further investigation of the case.
As reported, the drone entered the airspace from Russia and exploded at 2:39 near the center of the Svariņi parish in the Kraslava region. Another drone briefly entered Latvia's territory from Belarus and headed towards Russia.
President Edgars Rinkēvičs and the NAF stated that the exploded drone was a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle, which apparently was part of a coordinated Ukrainian operation against Russian targets.
On the night of Wednesday, Ukraine attacked the Russian ports of Ust-Luga and Vyborg in the Leningrad region with drones. Earlier, Ukrainian drones struck the port of Primorsk in northwestern Russia. These ports are located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea.
