In Riga, on Kārļa Ulmaņa gatve street heading towards Jūrmala, at a location where the speed limit already reaches 90 km/h, a pedestrian was struck on Tuesday.
A man crossed the highway in a prohibited area and was possibly under the influence of alcohol, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
Judging by the position of the Audi involved in the collision, the driver was traveling in the third lane. The front of the car did not appear to be damaged, however, the right mirror was torn off — likely the part that struck the pedestrian.
"After assessing the information received, two medical teams were dispatched to the scene, including a team of specialist doctors sent for more serious cases. The victim sustained severe injuries — a serious polytrauma. He was unconscious. After first aid was provided on site, the victim, in serious condition and accompanied by a specialist doctor, was transported to a medical facility," stated Inga Vitola, a representative of the Emergency Medical Service.
