An Explosion Occurred After airBaltic Flights to Riga Took Off in Dubai – Airport Closed

Dubai International Airport has suspended the acceptance and departure of aircraft for security reasons, reports the Dubai Media Office. The announcement does not specify when operations will resume.

The Latvian national airline airBaltic planned to operate its third repatriation flight from Dubai to Riga today, the airline reported. The third repatriation flight BT7756 was scheduled for 19:20 local Dubai time. It is now in question.

As reported, two planes flew from Dubai to Riga on Friday with a technical stop in Heraklion. Both flights had 145 seats available.

Fortunately, two Latvian planes took off without issues. They are expected in Riga today.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 624 Latvians registered in the consular register as of March 4, who need assistance to leave the UAE.

The UAE Ministry of Defense reported on the operation of air defense in the Dubai area, and the emirate's authorities confirmed an "incident" involving falling debris. Eyewitnesses captured the moment a drone arrived. The footage shows the sound of a flying drone, followed by an explosion at the airport.
