Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna forgot his tablet on a plane during a layover on his way to Madrid, Postimees reports. The Prime Minister is confident that enemy spies have nothing to gain.
Tsahkna shared on social media that during a layover in Amsterdam on his way to Madrid, he forgot his tablet on the airBaltic plane, but on the next flight, a flight attendant approached him and returned the device.
"In this case, I followed all the rules," emphasized the minister. He did not clarify which rules he was referring to.
The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was quick to announce that the device did not contain confidential information or state secrets.
Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal stated that he saw Tsahkna's post on social media but did not speak to him personally. "There are no state secrets or confidential documents on our portable devices. Ministers do not carry such documents or computers; that is not their job," Michal commented.
"So if an enemy spy tries to steal someone’s iPad, I’m afraid it won’t be of any use to them," he added.
According to the Prime Minister, there are separate systems in Estonia for handling state secrets. He admonished the absent-minded minister: "But state property should still be taken care of; it should not be left unattended."
