Around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, rescuers began extinguishing a fire in Bolderāja at the Kronospan woodworking enterprise.
As of 9:30, the fight against the fire was still ongoing. No injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, piles of sawdust caught fire near the Daugavgrīva highway.
At least four fire crews, police, and an ambulance were dispatched to extinguish the sawdust. Special equipment was also involved.
Experts note that sawdust is an extremely flammable material that can smolder for hours or days before open flames appear. Compressed piles of sawdust, especially if wet or containing oils, can spontaneously ignite.
