Sign Theft - 20 'Weight Limit' Signs Stolen from State Road 0 6

In the Cesis region, a total of 20 road signs No. 312 'Weight Limit 10 Tons' were stolen from the state regional road Rauna (Vidzemes Highway) - Drusti - Jaunpiebalga (P29). These signs were installed due to the fact that under wet weather conditions, the road loses its load-bearing capacity and the muddy season begins. The state enterprise 'Latvijas Valsts ceļi' intends to report the theft to the police.

During the muddy season, weight restrictions for vehicles are imposed on sections of gravel roads to prevent irreversible damage to the road surface. If vehicles heavier than 10 tons continue to travel on roads that have lost their load-bearing capacity, they may become completely impassable, including for those who violate the established restrictions. With ongoing wet weather conditions, the muddy season has already been recorded on 160 sections of state gravel roads, where weight restrictions for vehicles up to 10 tons have been imposed. The most such roads are in Zemgale — restrictions are in effect on 103 sections, in Vidzeme — on 21, in Latgale — on 19, in the Riga region — on 16, and in Kurzeme — on one section.
