The prosecution has submitted a criminal case to the Riga District Court against the mother, accused of negligent actions that resulted in the drowning of her six-year-old daughter in a pond near their home in the Ropaži municipality last year, reports the prosecution, according to LETA.
The woman is accused of cruel treatment of a minor, causing physical suffering, and causing death by negligence.
The accused allowed her minor daughter to play alone in the yard while she stayed inside the house. She was under the influence of psychotropic substances, which led her to leave the child unsupervised. The accused permitted the girl to be outside alone for an extended period during winter and at night.
The next morning, the child was found lifeless in a pond located on the property adjacent to the house.
The accused fully admitted her guilt regarding the charges against her.
The prosecution emphasizes that this case confirms that negligent actions of parents towards their child can lead to criminal liability.
