A tragic fire occurred in Daugavpils. The flames broke out in one of the houses where a woman and a man lived. During the blaze, both were inside, but only the man survived, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).
During a fire in a private house, a window opening was removed. Through it, Alexander retrieved a recently purchased drill that he had left at a friend's house the day before. He was the first to notice that something was wrong with the house, and that’s why he returned for his item.
"I arrived at their place by taxi, by Bolt, and saw black smoke pouring out of the door. At first, I went into the room where the [woman] was... She burned like a candle, she caught fire by the stove. Her hands were pinned, and she was burning. I managed to draw three buckets of water from the well and tried to extinguish the fire. But the flames only intensified," Alexander recounts.
While Alexander, risking his health, was saving the woman’s partner who was still conscious, a neighbor, also noticing the commotion, grabbed her phone and called the rescuers.
Alexander also carried out a gas cylinder from the house to prevent an explosion. His friend, whom he saved, was taken to the hospital in stable condition. After inspecting the premises, Alexander formed a rough idea of why the woman could not escape the fire.
"She was drinking and her legs were not moving. Most likely, sparks fell from the stove, fire. And she, as she held on with her hands, continued to burn like a candle," Alexander says.
Neighbors say that the couple living in the house abused alcohol. Unwanted individuals often gathered at the house, disturbing the peace of the neighborhood.
This is the first fire in the area, however, the houses around are gradually becoming empty, and local residents believe that soon the outskirts of Daugavpils will become deserted — and not only due to tragic fires.
