At the Children's Clinical University Hospital (DCKUB), a child has possibly died due to the fault of a medical worker, and in connection with the incident, the State Police has initiated a criminal process, Latvian Television reports today, LETA writes.
According to information from Latvian Television, on November 26, an oncology patient undergoing treatment at the Children's Clinical University Hospital (DCKUB) was allegedly administered incorrect medications. The child died.
Zane Straume, a board member of the Children's Hospital, confirmed that an incident occurred on November 26 that posed a risk to patient safety. The hospital is not disclosing the circumstances of the incident or whether the specific medical staff member is still working.
An internal investigation has been initiated at the institution, which, as Straume explained, will not be quick.
Two days later, on November 28, the hospital reported the incident to the Health Inspectorate, which has not yet begun an inspection as it is awaiting a statement from the parents.
The Children's Hospital also informed the State Police about the incident, which on December 5 initiated a criminal process under Chapter 13 of the Criminal Law — regarding crimes against human health.
The portal la.lv reports that an eight-year-old patient has died. According to information available to the portal, it is possible that someone confused the medications and potassium chloride was administered instead of sodium chloride.
