In 2023, 662 minors were affected by crimes in Latvia, which is 14.1% more than the previous year, according to aggregated data from the Central Statistical Bureau.
Among them, intentional bodily harm was inflicted on 55 minors. Sexual acts involving violence were committed against 105 individuals, including 91 girls and 14 boys. Additionally, 45 individuals were raped — all of whom were girls.
Last year, 134 minors suffered from cruelty and violence. The maximum penalty for this crime, as stipulated by the Criminal Code, is up to five years of imprisonment.
In 2023, three minors were killed.
