They were looking for child pornography, but found some nail polish.
The French government has declared a real war on the Chinese e-commerce giant Shein: customs officials at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris opened and inspected 200,000 packages that arrived in France from China.
This was done in order to "restore fairness in all economic relations and protect French consumers."
"Initial results revealed non-compliant and illegal products: unauthorized cosmetics, dangerous toys for children, counterfeit goods, and defective household appliances," said the minister in charge of the operation.
This operation was conducted the day after the government began the procedure to suspend the platform following reports to the fraud prevention department about the sale of dolls with child pornography and category A weapons. As part of this procedure, Shein has 48 hours to comply with French legislation.
"Protecting French consumers" sounds nice. However, there are doubts that the resources spent matched the intended goal. Photos of officials gutting packages from China look staged. It seems the decision to ban Shein has already been made, so why delay the packages? People are actually waiting for them! - comments the Telegram channel "Real France."
The tubes of gel polish found by customs officials, which do not comply with the new EU standards, looked particularly "frightening." And ironically, not a single sex doll was found.
